DEAN MARTIN episode of 23 September 1965

One of the most vivid and popular comedy-variety shows that ever appeared on TV was the Dean Martin show, which survived for nine years and was considered as a safe harbor for all, even during the time of severe political disturbances and wretched wars. The legendary host and the comedian Dean Martin hosted the show without any malice. One of the most popular episodes of the show was the DEAN MARTIN episode of 23 September 1965. This was during the first year of the show and was probably one of the most memorable episodes of the show. The cast of the show were Jack Jones, Peggy Lee, Shari Lewis, Dean Martin and John Wayne.

The reason that can be recalled to have made the show a popular and an eminent one in the entire series was the guest appearance of Duke. Duke did this for his pal Dino Crocetti (later known as Dean Martin) for two times and this was the first one.

Ahem! I am sorry for calling Duke's appearance to be the sole reason. The other reason was that the episode plugged the latest western of John Wayne where Martin himself was the co-star. The western was known as "The Sons of Katie Elder". Also, it was this episode of the show in which John Wayne made his first public appearance after having a cancer surgery. The wear that Wayne had to go through because of the painful experience did not at all reflect in his appearance. This was just marvelous and can be made possible by great men like John Wayne.

How can a Dean Martin show be considered complete without the very popular song "Everybody Loves Somebody Someday"? Yes, it was in this episode that Duke performed a duet with Martin on this song and the thing that was quite surprising was that singing was never a cup of tea for Wayne. A bit of real singing was there that added to the flavor of the show as Dean performed with Jack Jones and Peggy Lee. Having a good old time with Wayne, Martin hosted a very successful episode of the evergreen and long-lived comedy show!
